Les Gales de Mata is one of the oldest major festivals in Pla de l'Estany

The Gales de Mata are one of the most successful and oldest celebrations in the Pla de l'Estany region (Girona).

In 1890 it was called the gathering of Mata and it was held on August 16, later it was called Gales de Mata.

The Gazeta Banyolina magazine of October 1, 1916 already mentions the Gales de Mata (page 3).

Currently, the Gales de Mata are held on the 4th Sunday of August and include a night walk, quick drawing contest, havaneras, solemn service, dance and brotherhood dinner.

In the fifties of the 20th century, the service was only held in the church of Sant Andreu, around which there were festive events, the sweet aperitif and the sardanes (it was danced in the era of Can Pedrera, in the era of Can Xargay, in ca l'oncle Xato or in Plaça del Gra). On the last day of Gales de Mata, people used to go to the Salt Dalmau fountain for have a snack.
