The holiday home Can Xargay in Banyoles (Girona - Costa Brava) has obtained the Ecostars sustainability seal no. EUES-000.673
Ecostars is a sustainability certificate recognized by the most important organizations worldwide. From now, we are already part of the 10% of the Spanish hotel base certified with Ecostars, being the most widespread certificate in Spain and Western Europe.
The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO / UNWTO) chose Ecostars in its Rural Tourism Startup Competition 2021 as the best global sustainability project, and since then they have been working with the organization for more sustainable tourism.
Ecostars is a member at the international level of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) and at the national level of the Tourism Board of Spain, being the only certificate that holds both memberships. In addition, it collaborates with the most important international sustainability organizations, such as Climate Neutral Now (UNFCCC UN programme), Ecoembes (recycling), FSC (sustainable sources) and the World Food Travel Association (food).
This specific sustainability certification for hotels awards ecological stars according to a hotel's environmental impact per stay. The system assesses the environmental impact in key areas: water use, energy consumption, sustainable food, social impact, waste management and carbon emissions. Hotels that meet or exceed standards in all four categories receive a gold rating, while those that fall short of the mark in one or more areas receive a silver or bronze rating. By obtaining the Ecostars certification, Can Xargay wants to demonstrate its commitment to sustainable operations and provide guests with the peace of mind of knowing that they are supporting a green business. More than 500 hotels have already been certified in multiple countries, making Ecostars one of the largest sustainability labels in the world, although less than 20% have reached silver E3***.
